Founder Members of the Association of Licensed Trade Accountants

NRS Licensed Trade Accountants are proud to be founder members of The Association of Licensed Trade Accountants. There are many professional accountancy bodies in the UK but none that service the licensed trade and its members the way in which ALTA does.

This industry has been asking for a professional body such as this and we are proud to share some of our many years of expertise with like-mided professionals who work in the sector - there is only really one winner in ALTA - the licensed trade which is how it should be.

The Association of Licensed Trade Accountants (ALTA) was launched in May 2011 and was very much the will of the industry as well as a lot of work form the founders which included NRS Accountants and DRJ Accountants.

The need for a professional body such as this came from requirements within the industry and was supported by the BII and major pub groups such as Punch Taverns and Enterprise Inns.

More than 70 providers and interested parties from a range of related services attended the launch event held here in Worcester at the Diglis Hotel.

Keynote speakers were Neil Robertson, chief executive of the British Institute of Innkeeping (BII), Barry Gillham, chairman of leisure and hospitality consultancy Fleurets and Giles Kendall, operations director of Punch Taverns.

An open forum was chaired by Peter Grieve, head of recruitment and training at Enterprise Inns, who said the pub group would now insist on all of its preferred accountants being ALTA members.

ALTA has some principals which are wholeheartedly supported by NRS Accountants -

  • Collaboration – our philosophy is that more can be achieved together than it can individually, whether it’s sharing best practice, creating a knowledge hub or helping shape the future of the sector.

  • Consultation – decisions are made collectively and include members, trade bodies, experts and those we are here to support… the operators, tenants and licensees.

  • Co-operation – the membership approach is one of support and mentoring, creating a proactive, positive dynamic that ensures everyone has a voice within the Association.

Peter Grieve ( Enterprise Inns) said: “It is so important for licensed retailers to have proper financial advice and controls fully embedded in their business."

“The formation of ALTA is a major step forward as specialist licensed trade accountants can now operate to a pre-agreed charter and develop a consistent level of service and standards.”

Members and guests at the event received a specially-labelled bottle of Jewellery Porter stout from Birmingham-based Two Towers Brewery.

ALTA treasurer and founder member Neil Sysum, of Worcester-based NRS Accountants, said: “It’s fantastic to see so many people from all over the country supporting this new national initative."

This kind of event would certainly not have happened 10 years ago but now we’re all pulling together to support a challenged and challenging sector.
